Vimbai is a writer-performer based in Los Angeles, CA. She is the daughter of a proud Zimbabwean immigrant who instilled in her a love for historical dramas. Vimbai is a Yale graduate with degrees in History and Film & Media Studies. Her senior thesis script, The Forgotten Ones, scored in the top 15% of the Nicholls Academy Fellowship in 2019. Vimbai was part of the INC program in 2021, an incubator for upcoming female TV writers. In 2022, her feature, Lagos, was a quarter finalist in the Nicholls Academy Fellowship.
In 1895, an adopted young African woman plagued with mysterious seizures travels back to Lagos with her English chaperone to heal. While in Lagos, she’s confronted with the horrors of colonialism, and with the help of her new friends, she attempts to unlearn the racism she’s internalized.
