Trina Calderon

Trina Calderón is a Los Angeles TV / filmmaker and journalist. A graduate of Cal State University Northridge’s film program, she co-wrote the feature film Down For Life (aka Por Vida) which received critical acclaim at TIFF and LALIFF. In the early days of reality TV, she learned to produce on many HGTV shows with Authentic Entertainment and Pie Town Productions, and at G4tv network on X-Play and Web Soup, which involved shooting live at E3 and SDCC when nerd comedy found a resurgence and social media was pioneered on television. After serving as the co-executive producer on The Nerdist TV show on BBCAmerica, Trina wrote the 2014 NCLR Alma Awards for MSNBC and recently, the 2018 Gracie Gala Awards for the Alliance of Women in Media. She contributes art and culture writing to a variety of print and digital media, and writes short stories, essays, and screenplays. Working in the fine art world, she researched and wrote progressive museum and gallery exhibits, including the groundbreaking exhibit PUMP ME UP: DC Subcultures of the 1980’s at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. She helped write and produce Wall Writers, a large documentary film and book project about the American pioneers of graffiti dating back to the late 1960’s. Committed to a creative journey as a storyteller aware of her strong female and Latinx perspective, Trina aims to add a voice where mainstream media does not.
