Nickolas Duarte is a US-based producer, writer, and director working in film, television, and commercials. He is the founder of the production company Crown Chimp.
His scripted and documentary work has received distribution through SONY PICTURES TELEVISION, been selected for VIMEO STAFF PICKS, recognized by the WEBBY AWARDS, played in top festivals across the world, and has been described by SHORT OF THE WEEK as “almost as much a physical viewing experience as an emotionally affecting one.”
He is a NALIP LATINO LENS and MEDIA MARKET RECIPIENT, a NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS RECIPIENT, a fellow in the RYAN MURPHY HALF INITIATIVE, and co-created a crime series for WARNER BROTHERS.
Brands such as GOOGLE, BMW, and NIKE have commissioned Nickolas for both digital and broadcast content. His work in this space has earned him over 100 INDUSTRY AWARDS, and has been recognized by organizations like the NATIONAL ADDYS, the EMMYS, and the MUSEUM OF MODERN ART. He was inducted into the AAFT ADVERTISING HALL OF FAME as the 2017 Next Generation Award winner.
In addition to filmmaking, Nickolas is a regularly published poet with recent contributions to PRESS PAUSE PRESS, THE CAPE ROCK, THE ROUND, THE CONGLOMERATE, and FRIGG. His poetry is an extension of his artistic pursuits, focusing on racial identity, domestic life, and ontological reality. Nickolas was born and raised in Tucson, AZ. He is a father and a husband.
After spending over a decade traveling the world making commercials, documentaries, and short films, Nickolas is currently focused on long-form content, developing feature and episodic projects in the elevated genre space. Grounded human thrillers in the worlds of science-fiction, horror, and crime that use everyday human dramas, joys, and pains to explore the real and speculative fringes of reality and experience.
