Lamar Sally grew up in Detroit, Michigan where he excelled as an athlete and earned a football scholarship to Central Michigan University. Upon graduating with a degree in Communications he had a brief stint playing in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons. After football, he attended Columbia College Chicago Graduate Screenwriting and Directing Program. While attending graduate school a professor liked his work and sent his script to a producer friend in Los Angeles which earned him a screenplay option. Since coming to Hollywood Lamar has won every major writing fellowship; The Bill Cosby Writing Program, Nickelodeon Writing Program, and the prestigious ABC/Disney Writing Fellowship. He has been a staff writer on the ABC sitcom “Rodney”, wrote and executive produced “The View’s” Sherri Shepherd’s comedy special for Epix titled “It’s My Turn To Talk!” and sold a half hour comedy to HBO which is loosely based on his experience as a English teacher in South Central Los Angeles.
Lamar stepped away from Hollywood for a few years to get married and move to New York but was never totally out of the game. While in New York Lamar did stand-up and wrote sketch comedy at the famous Upright Citizens Brigade. Upon returning to Los Angeles, Lamar re-applied to the ABC/Disney Creative Talent Development & Inclusion program where he made it to the final round/top 25. Lamar is now a divorced full time single father raising a cute-as-a-button three-year-old and experiencing the LA single life.
