Joel Juarez is currently in development on two Mexico – US coproduction feature films ”UNDER THE STRAWBERRY SUN”, (PRODUCTORA 35) selected for The International Guadalajara Pitch Market and “SACRED ART THIEVES”. He recently released his feature film debut “GENERATION LAST”, a Sci-Fi Global Warming Thriller which toured international film festivals. Joel produces and directs Television Pilots and commercials for various L.A. and Mexican production companies.

Joel has established himself among the new filmmakers. Labeled an "Auteur-to-watch" by the Los Angeles Magazine after graduating from the prestigious UCLA School of Film & TV where he earned an MFA in Directing. His comedy, PELEA DE GALLOS, (The Cock Fight) premiered on Showtime Networks, and won Best Film at several International Film Festivals, and was awarded his second Director’s Guild of America Award. "What's wonderful about Joel’s films is that he creates tone first, and he's very consistent. He gives us something we hardly get to see. He bridges cultures,” says DGA director Ed Ornelas. Acclaimed filmmaker Wim Wenders describes Under the Strawberry Sun as “an intense yet sensitive and beautiful character study of a young teenager forced into sexual slavery.”

Joel is a prolific filmmaker, his poetic film SinAzul, aired on PBS and was awarded his first DGA Award and the coveted UCLA Spotlight Award. His ethnographic film EATING INSECTS aired on Showtime Networks. Shortly after he was invited to the Sundance Film Festival as part of Kodak’s Emerging Filmmakers Program and participated in the DGA Latino Mentorship Program.
