James Starbird

James is a screenwriter from a state most people forget exists: Missouri. As his family moved from town to town and bounced from denomination of religion to the next, James quickly found himself writing short stories to stay grounded. After a hiatus from higher education and getting his feet wet in production in Austin, TX, James went on to graduate from Webster University with a BA in Screenwriting in 2020. This unconventional path has blended into his writing, where he touches on themes of dysfunctional families, personal identity, mental illness, and what it means to be human. These stories are often tonally dark, touch on dilemmas we fear to discuss in everyday life but told from a place of forgotten innocence. James’s writing is bleak, profound and highly visual. But don’t let that fool you: he is one hell of a goofball.
