Frank J. Avella is the recipient of a 2019 International Writers Retreat Residency at Arte Studio Ginestrelle (Assisi, Italy), a 2018 Bogliasco Foundation Fellowship, a 2016 Helene Wurlitzer Residency Grant and a 2015 NJ State Arts Council Fellowship Award. His feature length screenplays include adaptations of his plays CONSENT (winner of the Best Feature Screenplay at the 2021 Oz Indie Film Festival (Australia), the Best Screenplay Award at the 2020 Austria International Film Festival, the 2020 Best LGBT Screenplay Award at the New Renaissance Film Festival (Amsterdam) and the Best Drama Screenplay at the 2020 Los Angeles Motion Picture Festival as well as a Finalist/Selected for 27 other Festivals/Contests, in 9 different countries), LURED (winner/finalist/selected for 20 Festivals/Awards in 8 countries) and SCREW THE COW (winner/finalist in 11 Festivals/Competitions) as well as FIG JAM (a winner/finalist for 17 awards/festivals). His short scripts FIG DUDE and MULTITASKING are also winners/finalists in Festivals. Frank has written numerous plays that have been produced including LURED (2018 O’Neill semifinalist, produced in NYC and Rome), CONSENT (2x O’Neill semifinalist) CATAMITUS (2019 Best Play, Five & Dime Drama Collective), THE BUBBLE, IRIS (Know Theatre, Cincinnati), MICHAEL’S #1 FAN, 3 CAINS & UNHINGING.
