I was destined for fandom from birth: with a Trekkie mom and a Star Wars-loving dad, I have never stood a chance. I'm a super-fan.

I joke that I'm predisposed to be a hoarder because fandom always comes with merchandise. Even when I was a toddler, I had everything Blue's Clues: bedding, toys, VHS tapes, dishes, clothes.

The collectibles themselves are fun to have but what I really like about collecting is how it preserves the memories. I like the stories and feelings that the "stuff" represents.

When I think of myself as a writer, I also consider it as collecting. I love being able to take the stories, feelings, and memories that I've collected over a lifetime into my writing... because where's the fun in having a collection if no one gets to see it?
