MACRO + The Black List Feature Screenwriter Incubator
MACRO and The Black List, in partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures, are proud to present the inaugural MACRO x The Black List Feature Screenwriter Incubator. This new initiative offers writers of color the opportunity to develop a film idea to pitch to a Warner Bros. Pictures executive.
One writer will be selected to receive $10,000 as well as development support from executives at MACRO and The Black List to craft a feature-film pitch to be presented to a Warner Bros. executive in 2021. The pitch developed for this partnership, if sold, will grant the selected writer a two-step WGA minimum deal. The mission of this program is to discover and empower the next generation of writers in the studio system with creative tools, resources and the access needed to help launch their careers.
Interested writers are encouraged to submit a feature film script sample via the Black List website for consideration in this opportunity between 3/18/21 and 8/1/21.
As with the MACRO Episodic Lab in 2018, MACRO will offer fee waivers for 500 writers to submit their feature scripts for this opportunity via the Black List website, which will provide one free month of hosting and one free evaluation to 500 writers selected by MACRO. Writers interested in receiving a fee waiver must submit an application on MACRO’s site between March 18, 2021 and April 19, 2021. MACRO will notify those writers who will receive waivers no later than June 1, 2021, and writers will have until July 1, 2021 to submit their script via the Opportunities page on blcklst.com. No late applications will be considered for fee waivers.
Writers who do not wish to receive a fee waiver from MACRO are welcome to submit their feature film script for consideration via the Opportunities page on blcklst.com as one would with any Black List website opportunity. Those applicants will only need to host their script for one week during the 3/18/21-8/1/21 submission period; no need to host a script for the duration of the submission period.
If writers wish to purchase evaluations for consideration in the MACRO x The Black List Feature Screenwriter Incubator, we recommend doing so no later than July 1, 2021 in order to guarantee that they are returned by the partnership’s conclusion on August 1, 2021 - this is applicable to those receiving fee waivers from MACRO as well.
Selected short list writers will be further engaged by the teams at MACRO and The Black List following the end of the submission period on August 1, 2021. Writers may be asked to submit a resume, personal statement, and feature film pitch as a result of their short list placement. MACRO, The Black List, and Warner Bros. can offer the agreed upon deal to any number of or none of the short list candidates. Writers may also have the ability to develop a pitch based on IP owned by Warner Bros., as up to the discretion of MACRO, The Black List, and Warner Bros. executives.
