Women In Film, LA (WIF) and The Black List are excited to announce that they have joined forces to create a television lab for female writers and the opt-in is now open. The inaugural Women In Film/The Black List Episodic Lab is scheduled to begin in August 2016 in Los Angeles, CA.
Beginning today, writers who identify as women and who meet the criteria detailed below can opt their pilot scripts into consideration. Writers who are Women In Film members can also submit their script directly to WIF.
Women In Film and the Black List will invite eight promising non-professional writers who identify as women to the Lab. The Lab will run for eight weeks and will consist of script development, workshopping sessions and Master Classes with established writers and industry executives. Lab participants will have their final pilots read by agencies and networks. Master Class teachers and writing coaches will be announced in the coming weeks.
THE SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process will work like this:
Twelve writers will be invited, based on the strength of their pilot scripts as evaluated by the Black List screenplay evaluation service, to submit a one-page personal statement. Twelve additional writers will be selected by applications submitted to Women In Film and will also submit one-page personal statements.
From those twenty-four writer’s personal statements, eight writers will be selected by the Women In Film, the Black List and the Lab writing coaches to participate in the workshops.
TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATIONS
Travel and accommodations will not be provided for Lab participants. If you are applying to the Lab and do not live in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, you will need to cover your own travel and accommodation expenses.
